Audi is relying on the really big appearance: The new concept car A6 e-Tron comes with extras that make the gamer’s heart beat faster and many additional functions.

Audi A6 e-Tron: What Audi’s flagship electric car is doing right

To attract attention at this year’s Auto Shanghai trade fair, you have to hit the wall: One new product after the other is there to revolutionize the car market. Audi has also undertaken no less than that with the A6 e-Tron – a guide for the electrification of Ingolstadt-based residents. The Sportback can convince in many ways but leaves some questions unanswered.

The company has proven in its history to date that Audi can sell luxury cars. In this respect, the A6 e-Tron is not exactly a daring shot in the dark. As the manufacturer announces, the same external dimensions as the sister model with the combustion engine and high-quality equipment are used. Optimized air resistance, 800-volt fast charging technology with up to 270 kW should be able to charge a range of up to 300 km in 10 minutes. In total, depending on the equipment, more than 700 km should be there. Sounds like an electric car that is competitive in every respect.

Projectors as headlights and LEDs all around – who needs that?

The manufacturer gives lighting technology a special place – and you have to ask yourself why. With LED modules on the sides, the electric A6 is supposed to project messages onto the street – as a safety warning for pedestrians or as a greeting when getting in. Nice, but is it really necessary?

The same question also raises the headlights: They are according to the manufacturer as are loading to the projector and take video games to the wall. Passionate gamers will love it, but who else will benefit from it? Audi is simply focusing in the wrong place here, namely on what a car can do when it is not driving. That’s not what it’s there for.
